10.00 – 12.00 Session 1 CONVERGENCE COUNTDOWN This session will combine the experiences gained from companies and groups that have already moved to IFRS in the UK with recent developments and proposals such as the IASB’s proposed ‘IFRS for small and medium-sized companies’, and EU proposals for a ‘microcompany’ which would be almost completely unregulated from an accounts and audit perspective.

12.45 – 14.45 Session 2 THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE COMPANIES ACT The Companies Act 2006 became law on 8 November 2006. It is being implemented in stages and should be fully in force by October 2009. This session will be an overview of the key changes.

15.00 – 17.00 Session 3 INFLUENCING CHANGE Finance professionals may occupy roles where they are required to help others make improvements to accounting practices, or demonstrate how business improvements can impact favourably on the bottom line. It can be challenging to influence others to willingly accept change, especially when there is no direct line authority.
