CAT exemption for SPM scorer
The Ministry of Education (MOE) today officially announced that students who scored 1A and 2A in' Principles of Accounting'in the recent SPM examinations are entitled for exemption for CAT (Certified Accounting Technician) paper.
CAT is foundation programme for ACCA Professional Qualification. The programme is developed to provide basic foundation in accountancy, even for those without the benefits of accounting background. CAT is a smart option for those who want to pursue ACCA Professional Accounting Qualification - a step to be world-class accountants.
Students who scored 1A and 2A in ' Principles of Accounting' get exemptions for CAT paper T1 'Recording Financial Transactions'. With these exemptions, SPM students can complete their CAT and ACCA qualifications much earlier as the SPM syllabus is recognised by international standard. There are 9 papers to be completed for CAT qualification.
ACCA signed an MoU with MOE in 2007 as part of the ongoing revamp of curriculum and standard of national education.
ACCA is pleased to support Malaysian Government's efforts to raise education standards, and more importantly to ensure that the syllabus and qualification for Malaysian students are relevant and up-to-date with the industry.
Such collaboration with the Ministry of Education in Malaysia is the first-of-its-kind for ACCA worldwide.
"ACCA regards the initiative to review current syllabus of the SPM Principles of Accounting and benchmarked the new syllabus against international benchmarking as a farsighted move. Such initiative will give opportunities to more students in Malaysia to choose careers in accountancy and finance," said Teo Ee Seng, Member of ACCA Malaysia Advisory Committee.
"The word 'certified' (for CAT ) is misnomer, as the examination standards at the final stage of the CAT qualification is in fact of comparable to the first year of a UK Bachelors Degree Programme," Teo further elaborated.
