| Job description: | |
| About the ISEAL Alliance: ISEAL is an international non-profit organisation that codifies best practice for the design and implementation of social and environmental standards systems. ISEAL shapes the context in which voluntary standards systems operate, by defining what good practice looks like for the sector, but also through influencing how external stakeholders think about and engage with credible voluntary standards systems. ISEAL Alliance members such as the Forest Stewardship Council and the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations International are leading organisations in social and environmental standard-setting and certification, and are committed to compliance with ISEAL Credibility Tools. ISEAL is managed by a small secretariat and directed by a board of directors, representing the full member associations. The financial management of the organisation is overseen by a finance committee, made up of finance managers from three of the member organisations. ISEAL’s head office is in London with nodal offices in Belgium and Canada. This position will be based in London. More information on the ISEAL Alliance can be found at www.isealalliance.org. About the Position: ISEAL’s new strategic Plan for 2009-2013 defines an ambitious and expanded programme of work that will significantly increase ISEAL’s financial management activities including the introduction of a set of fee-for-service activities and an increased and diversified set of donor relationships. The ISEAL Alliance is seeking a part-time Finance Manager to oversee the financial management of the organisation during this period of growth. The position will report to the Executive Director and will initially be expected to handle all aspects of ISEAL’s financial management activities from the more strategic role of developing and implementing ISEAL’s financial strategy to the day to day production and management of the monthly, quarterly and annual accounts. In early to mid 2009, ISEAL will hire a Finance Assistant to undertake much of the day to day accounting under the supervision of the Finance Manager. Until this time, ISEAL’s Operations Manager will support the Finance Manager with the invoicing and payments activities. The recruitment of a Finance Manager at this time is to replace ISEAL’s current 1 day pw book-keeper and strengthen ISEAL’s investment in financial management. ISEAL’s accounts are currently managed using Sage Line 50 though upon the recommendation of the Finance Manager, this can be changed. The successful candidate will join a small professional team interacting both in person and virtually through telephone and email correspondence. There is a high degree of flexibility and autonomy involved in this position and would therefore suit someone with a strong commitment and proven initiative. This is a unique opportunity to shape the financial management and sustainability of a small yet established and rapidly expanding international not-for-profit organisation. | |
