ACCA AUSTRALIA – PROFESSIONALISM AND ETHICS EVENT
Aukland, New Zealand, and Melbourne, Australia, November 2007
ACCA President Gill Ball addressed around 100 guests at two events hosted by ACCA Australia and New Zealand, held to promote ACCA's professionalism and ethics initiatives. The events were held in Auckland and Melbourne, and delegates included ACCA members and students, and a number of CFOs from major Australian corporations. The Auckland event also strengthened the relationship between ACCA and the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development (NZBCSD), which endorses the ACCA Australia and New Zealand Sustainability Reporting Awards.
At the Auckland event, attended by around 55 guests, Gill Ball was joined by Peter Neilson, CEO of NZBCSD, and also a former New Zealand MP and Cabinet Minister. In Melbourne, Professor Barry Cooper, a member of the ACCA Council, spoke alongside Gill Ball on 'the importance of teaching ethics'; around 40 ACCA members and students attended.
At both events, Gill Ball stressed ACCA's aim to place a greater emphasis on professionalism through accountancy training: 'Accountants are getting more and more seats on the Board. They are often the leaders of today as well as tomorrow, so getting this training instilled in people, wherever they are in their careers, is very important.'
