Royal Bank of Scotland
With more than 40 leading brands and over 36 million customers in 30 countries, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is one of the world’s largest financial organisations. And as you’d expect from an organisation of our calibre, our Group Internal Audit function is pretty impressive too.
With a team of over 350 people, in locations from London, Edinburgh and Dublin to Hong Kong, Boston and New York – Group Internal Audit (GIA) is far more than just an ordinary internal auditing practice. Our vision is to be a first-class team, producing a first-class product and delivering a first-class service to our customers.
The RBS group is a truly global business and in GIA, we see it all. By identifying the key risks and threats facing the Group, we create a plan for auditing their management and provide an assessment of how the main business risks are being managed and controlled. This enables managers to make calculated decisions that balance risk and reward. Our aim is simple – to improve the business.
Over the course of our two-year programme, you’ll spend time in Consumer Banking, Central Services, Corporate Markets and RBS Insurance. In fact, you’ll quickly find there’s no such thing as a typical day in Audit. Your work could focus on any area: from the Group as a whole to an individual operating unit or process; from trading desks in our Global Banking & Markets business to our Treasury department; from IT applications to cash centres; from our branch networks to Group people processes. The learning curve will certainly be steep, but at the end of it you’ll have gained a unique insight into the whole Group.
We’ll expect at least a 2.1, ideally in a business or finance-related subject. A good understanding of how the commercial world works is also vital. Personal skills are just as important as your academic background and work experience though. Ours is a team-orientated, customer-focused environment so you’ll need to be a natural communicator. You’ll also be someone who loves solving problems and finding better ways of doing things.
You can expect a highly competitive starting salary. Add to this our Total Reward package which may include relocation, joining bonus, discretionary bonuses, profit sharing, employer-funded pension scheme and discounted financial products, and you have one of the most flexible and generous benefits packages around. And working in GIA, you may have the opportunity for rotations in Asia, the US and Europe.
