Keeping safe online

HMRC has published updated guidance about online security. The guidance covers how HMRC works with, and contacts, taxpayers and agents.

The guidance includes:

  • protecting yourself online: how HMRC is working to keep you safe online and what you can do to protect yourself, and
  • security messages: HMRC won’t use email to inform people of a tax rebate but are  trialling the use of text messaging to contact some customers
  • fraud and scams: hints and tips to help you spot fraudulent emails and what to do if you think you have received one.
